ANTA Sports Products Limited Announces its 2007 Annual Results

(12 March 2008, Hong Kong) ANTA Sports Products Limited ("ANTA Sports" or the "Company", stock code: 2020) is pleased to announce the audited condensed consolidated annual results of the Company and its subsidiaries (collectively as ANTA or the "Group") for the year ended 31 December 2007 ("2007"or the "Reporting Period") today. During the Reporting Period, the Company recorded a turnover of RMB3,182.4 million, a 154.6% increase over the same period of last year. Profits attributable to shareholders amounted to RMB537.8 million, an increase of 264.8% over the same period of last year. Basic earnings per share was RMB25.3 cents. Gross profit margin increased by 8.1% points to 33.2% points. Net profit margin increased by 5.1% points to 16.9% points.

The Board is pleased to recommend a final dividend of HK 8 cents per share in respect of the year.

"2007 was a landmark year on the Group's milestone. Ever since our successful listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange last year, the Group received positive response from the global capital markets, which demonstrated investors' confidence in the business prospect and competitive edge of the Group," said Mr. Ding Shizhong, the Chairman and the Chief Executive Officer of ANTA Sports, during the results review for the reporting year.

"The Group's distributors has operated 4,716 ANTA authorized retail outlets in 2007 and even opened 4 flagship stores in Shanghai, Shenyang and Wuhan. Meanwhile, overseas distributors of the Group have set up 20 retail outlets and over 100 concessionary counters in Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe consecutively, which boosted the recognition of ANTA brand in international markets. The retail business of international branded sportswear which commenced this year has also attained better-than-expected results."

Thanks to our outstanding performance in 2007, the Group gained market recognition includes:

  • From 2001 to 2006, ANTA footwear has been led in "composed index on market shares for six consecutive years in China", rated by the China General Chamber of Commerce and the China National Commercial Information Centre;
  • "ISO 9001 quality control certification" has been awarded for ANTA footwear production processes"; and
  • The Group was again awarded the title of "State-designated Products Exempted from Quality Surveillance Inspection" by General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China.

In view of the robust economic growth in China, Mr. Ding Shizhong is optimistic about the prospect of domestic sportswear market, "with the increase of the total value of gross domestic product and per capita income, demand for consumers goods soared correspondingly. In 2007, the total retail sales of consumer goods amounted to RMB8.9 trillion, a growth of 16.8% against the corresponding period in 2006. As China is one of the leading country in terms of urbanization and economic development, the development potential of its sportswear market should be not overlooked."

Mr. Ding Shizhong said "Due to the rapid growth of China economy, surging consumption power of residents, urbanization as well as the change of economy mode in the PRC, demand for sportswear products become increasingly considerable. Furthermore, the Beijing Olympics which every Chinese is proud of has aroused the concern about and awareness of sports and stimulate demand for sportswear. The Group will enhance the competitive edges and providing value-for-money sportswear products for consumers to continuously expand the market.""

The Group casts a positive eye on the future sportswear product market, which is expected to benefit from China growing economy, increasing consumers' purchasing power, higher living standards and growing emphasis on sports in coming years. In 2008, the Group will seek a further expansion of our retail network, enhancing brand recognition and desirability to provide high quality and professional sportswear products to consumers. Addressing the future opportunities, the Group expects to sharpen our overall competitive edge under our well-defined strategies in place.

  • To adopt a multi-brand strategy
    Continuing the development of international sportswear brands retail business. Setting up the ANTA kids division and designing NBA players' product series to enrich our business mix and brand family. Seeking collaboration with high-end global brands to complement with ANTA brand which targeting mass market.
  • To enhance brand recognition and desirability
    Rolling out a number of integrated promotional campaigns for the Olympic Games. Consolidating the collaboration with Houston Rockets and the sponsorship of NBA players and endorsing potential athletes to enhance overseas recognition and brand's professional image in a global context. Promoting the fifth generation store and planning for the sixth generation image.
  • To explore nation-wide distribution and retail network
    Motivating the distributors to open flagship stores in strategic markets and first-tier cities, while strengthening development of large outlets in the second-and third-tier cities. More collaboration with nation-wide distributors to boost coverage on departmental stores, shopping malls and sports retail complexes. Shops along the same street will distinguish themselves by distinct product themes, catering f or needs of different consumers. Promoting the influence of ANTA brand in the international arena through optimizing distributors' retail management.
  • To upgrade research and development and designing capabilities
    Aligning our product mix with market demand based on the research on changing consumer demand. Optimizing our designing team and continuing to cooperate with international renowned design houses and professionals and introducing excellent designers to improve overall designing level, so as to provide consumers the sportswear products with quality and professionalism.
  • To expand production capacity and improve quality control capability
    Expanding self-production capacity by adding 12 footwear production lines and f urther expansion of apparel production f acilities will gradually commencing their operations. Improving the flexibility of our own production facilities under the established strategy, while focusing on upgrading product mix to increase the proportion of products with high profit margin.
